Recently, my Grandma celebrated her 81st birthday. Happy Birthday Grams! She didn’t want to venture too far and chose Jessica Restaurant to celebrate her birthday.
We started off with this cold plate of marinated jellyfish, ham, surf clam and beef shank. This dish was average, the beef shank was tender but jellyfish was really salty.
These deep fried shrimp balls were probably the highlight of the night. They were deep fried well and the shrimp filling still retained that juicy texture.
The seafood, celery and snow pea stirfry in a deep fried basket was a disappointment. The seafood was overcooked and the overall dish lacked flavor. The deep fried basket made out of shredded potatoes was stale.
The soup was average and there’s wasn’t anything stand out about it.
I’m usually a huge fan of this dish of creamy lobster over noodles but this version was very disappointing. The lobster was overcooked and the creamy sauce was bland. We left more than half of this dish untouched.
The snow pea leaf was cooked well and was tender but the sauce was a bit too salty. I didn’t try the shiitake mushrooms.
The deep fried chicken in garlic soy sauce was also overcooked so the chicken was quite dry.
The steamed tilapia was also overcooked and lost its smooth and silky texture. No surprise here as most of the dishes we had that night was overcooked.
Overall, we had a very disappointing meal here as the dishes were below par. The service was actually pretty good and the staff was attentive. It was nice of them to provide my Grandma with complimentary red bean filled buns for her birthday.
